Volunteering is the perfect way to temporarily immerse yourself in all aspects of our loving community. You can become involved in areas such as organic gardening, bioconstruction, art installations, carpentry, alternative early childhood education, and vegetarian cuisine. You will quickly discover that Chambalabamba is a place that honours and encourages;
You will have the freedom to sample jobs in these respective focus areas and decide where you could be of most service, while at the same time obtaining a sense of fulfillment and enjoyment. Our expectations are flexible, and we strive to be completely open and receptive to new ideas.
We invite people from all ages, backgrounds, and spiritual lineages to apply to our volunteer program, but we expect applicants to share our core values and principles and embody them fully during their term as a volunteer.
Chambalabamba welcomes volunteers. We appreciate people with an artistic spirit who are creative and passionate about what they do. We are looking for builders, carpenters, and horticulturists. We need committed people who can work cooperatively with others to achieve the goals and projects we set as a community.
The minimum time allotment to stay as a volunteer is one month. There is a two-day trial period to see if you are a right fit for our community, and if the community is a right fit for you. Cost is $5 per night. If, after the two-day trial period, both you and the community are satisfied, you may stay on as a volunteer.
For those wishing to stay longer than a month, if there is space and the community agrees, you may stay. The cost is $20 per week plus a $10 deposit. The deposit is returned at the end of your stay (minimum one month) when sheets and blankets are returned clean and in good condition.
A community lunch is served Monday through Friday. Flour, oatmeal, and panela (a locally-grown cane sugar) is available to use in your other meals. Cleaning and maintenance of the property are responsibilities shared equally by all who live here.
If you sign up for our volunteer program, please confirm your date of arrival and departure. You must also reconfirm your arrival one week before you arrive. If we do not receive confirmation, your place will be made available to other volunteers.
This is a close-knit community whose success depends on everyone’s commitment to unity, harmony, and personal integrity – so even if your stay is only temporary, we expect that your behavior will reflect those non-negotiable qualities.
If you would like to participate in our volunteer program, please fill out this form. We will respond as soon as possible. It is a good idea to save a copy of your answers and bring them with you as an introduction.
Chambalabamba is open to visitors Monday through Friday. For a small donation, visitors may join us for our community lunch around 1:30 pm. If you would like a tour after lunch, please let us know in advance. If you are coming with a group for lunch, please tell us in advance how many are coming so we may prepare enough food.
